September – Last will and Testament month!

The Mexican Government has created a campaign that takes place every September, in which notaries offer a discount from 40% to 60%, all this in order to motivate the public to write their wills.

What are the requirements for a Will?


1. Request it through the Notary of your trust

2. Be 17 years old.

  • (depending which state of the Mexican Republic)

3. Be in full use of your mental faculties

4. Express your will clearly

5. If you wish, you can draw up a list of the inheritance assets and their location. These details are not required if a universal heir is named.

6. Provide your general data:

  • name (s);

  • father and mother last name;

  • date and place of birth;

  • nationality;

  • marital status and, if married, determine under what patrimonial regime (conjugal partnership or separation of assets);

  • occupation; and current address.

7. Present a copy of your birth certificate;

8. Present original and a copy of an official identification with photograph and signature:

  • a. Passport;

  • b. Consular Registration Certificate;

  • c. Military service record (if applicable);

  • d. Driver's license;

  • e. Other

9. Provide the names of parents, spouse, and children (even if deceased) and their dates and birthplaces.

10. Document the name of your executor and their contact information.

11. Cover the payment of corresponding rights in the form and amount indicated by the Federal Law on Rights.
