Driving License in Quintana Roo 2024: Requirements for Foreigners

In 2024, the process to obtain a driver's license has experienced significant changes in terms of requirements, costs, and validity. Driver's licenses previously issued by the State or Municipal Traffic Directorate still retain their original validity.

Institute in Charge and Location:

The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (IMOVEQROO) is the entity in charge of issuing driver's licenses in the region. For residents of Tulum, the office is located in IMOVEQROO Opening hours are from 9 am to 3 pm.

Validity:

The validity periods for driver's licenses for foreigners are now temporary, with a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 120 days. It is important to note that a specific regime for foreigners with temporary or permanent residence has not yet been established.

Requirements:

1. Fill out and submit an application, including contact information for notifications (email and telephone number), as well as the option to indicate blood type and willingness to be a donor of organs, cells and tissues for transplants. "Download here!"

2. Present the immigration document that certifies legal stay in the country.

3. Be of legal age.

4. Have a valid passport.

5. Obtain a driving certificate issued by IMOVEQROO, municipal agencies or individuals/legal entities accredited by the institute.

6. Obtain a vision examination certificate issued by municipal agencies or individuals/legal entities accredited by IMOVEQROO.

7. Present the corresponding payment receipt (Payments are made directly at their offices, cash payments are not accepted).

4 years: $986.00 pesos

5 years: $1,193.00 pesos
